The Port Macquarie Koala Hospital was established in 1973, it is an activity of Koala Conservation Australia Inc. a registered not-for-profit organisation.
The Port Macquarie Koala Hospital is open to visitors every day except Christmas Day to provide information and facts about the unique Australian icon, the koala. The hospital is situated in the Macquarie Nature Reserve in Lord street Port Macquarie.
The Port Macquarie Koala Hospital is a licensed Wildlife Rehabilitation Facility carrying out on site procedures. As well as caring for up to 250 wild koalas a year, the Koala Hospital is an education facility sharing knowledge in school programs, with various organisations and the general public. Research into wild koala diseases in Australia was pioneered at the Koala Hospital in the early 1980’s in collaboration with the University of Sydney.  The Port Macquarie Koala Hospital is a recognised research/study centre and as such has a strong affiliation with many universities, with the Australian Museum and with Taronga Zoo. We also network with many institutions, zoos, wildlife researchers, wildlife veterinarians and numerous wildlife rehabilitation groups worldwide.
The Koala Hospital’s staff and volunteers are available for koala advice and rescue 24 hours a day, every day of the year.
